The German Luftwaffe (Air Army) ruled the sky's of Europe during the dark days of World War II. Because of a lack of fighter coverage the German planes decimated the Allied bomber missions. Their success was short lived when the North American P-51 Mustang showed up, being the very first allied fighter to escort the bombers to and from their targets. We are paying tribute to this aluminum beauty. The P-51 was powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin V-12 reaching top speed at 456 mph. It was outfitted with six 50-caliber machine guns and packed with 10 5-inch rockets or 2000 lbs of bombs. This 'Ole EXTERMINATOR' turned out to be one of the best fighter planes of World War II, becoming the Luftwaffe nightmare!
